Leading Aircraftman Leonard KINCHIN is one of the 372 British Servicemen who died on active service during the four-year Cyprus Emergency April 1 1955 to April 18 1959, and whose name is among those remembered with honour on the British Cyprus Memorial. Serving with the RAF, he and another airman drowned while trying to save a Greek Cypriot swimmer on the Kyrenia coast near Lapithos on May 27 1956. Aged 18 from Oldbury, Worcestershire he is buried at Wayne’s Keep, the British military cemetery in Cyprus, Plot 14 Row C Grave 3.See also FUSCO.
