I love the clock in the green room at Gladstone's Land where I volunteer on Sunday afternoons. It tells the hour and the day of the month and can cope with months of varying lengths. To me it represents all one needs to know and is a handsome piece of furniture to boot.

Two gardens are particularly special to me. Firstly Inverewe, where I worked for a short time in the early 70s, it is such a story of perseverance to make it in the first place and keep it as the lovely peaceful place it is. Secondly, Crarae gardens, which I have known long before the Trust took it over. This is such an unusual place with the lovely glen and some marvellous plants which light up the place in the autumn with such wonderful colours.
