Fireman Frederick William Hook NFS

Born in Cardiff in 1899.  A veteran of WW1 serving initially in the Welsh Regiment from 1915 before transferring to the Machine Gun Corps.

Settled in Bristol after WW1 and married Ivy Henrietta Gill, they had eight children.

Joined the AFS in Bristol prior to the outbreak of WW2 and was initially stationed in the grounds of Southmead Hospital - AFS collar no. 1242

The exact details surrounding how, when and where he sustained his injuries in November 1943 are unclear and research is ongoing. He was medically discharged from the NFS in February 1944 and awarded the King's Badge for Loyal Service, spending a large proportion of the remainder of his life in hospital with lung damage.

He died at home on Christmas Day 1947 and is buried in Canford Cemetery, Westbury-on-Trym, Bristol.
