    In 2006 Middlesbrough Sea Cadet Unit was the parent Unit for establishing Redcar Cadets as it is today – TS Zetland. Liz was elected as Teesside District Chairman in 2006 and two years later was appointed Northern Area Deputy Chairman for the Marine Society and Sea Cadets covering Northumberland, Teesside and Tyne South Districts. This included a total of 18 Sea Cadet Units where she helped the Unit Management Committees as and when needed and attending their AGM’s. In November 2013 Liz retired as Chairman of Middlesbrough Sea Cadets but continued as Northern Area Deputy Chairman for the Marine Society and Sea Cadets until 2015. Lord Crathorne, Lord Lieutenant for North Yorkshire and Unit President attended her farewell parade along with the Captain Sea Cadets, Captain Mark Windsor RN. In 2015 Liz was awarded an MBE for her work with the Sea Cadets; after the ceremony at the Palace, the Unit President, Lord Crathorne, hosted a lunch at the House of Lords for Liz and her family. In the same year Liz was elected an Honorary Member of the Marine Society and Sea Cadets.On her retirement she was presented with a print of ‘TS Royalist’ on behalf of the MSSC Tyne Tees Branch by Richard Maudslay CBE in the Captain’s cabin of HMS Trincomalee. OTHER VOLUNTEERING Over the years as well as the British Legion, Liz has been active with a number of Veteran’s organisation. She worked with both the Armed Forces and Civic communities to organise events such as Battle of Britain and Trafalgar Day parades in Middlesbrough and the restoration of war memorials. Liz formed and chaired the Middlesbrough Military Celebratory Association (MMCA) to ensure all military parades take place in the town and to pedestrianise the Cenotaph for the veterans – once the remit was complete the MMCA folded in November 2008. Welfare Officer for the Combined Services Association Welfare Visitor for the British Korean Veterans Association (Durham and Cleveland) Branch War Pension Support Visitor for the Veterans Agency in Leeds In 2014 Liz was presented with the Teesside Heroes Award and a long service certificate from the Cleveland Youth Association in recognition of over 40 years of volunteering.
