Senior Aircraftman John Albert SARGENT is one of the 372 British Servicemen who died on active service during the four-year Cyprus Emergency April 1 1955 to April 18 1959, and whose name is among those remembered with honour on the British Cyprus Memorial. Serving with the RAF he was one of the two airman killed on November 8 1958 when a terrorist bomb hidden inside a jukebox exploded in the crowded Saturday evening NAAFI at RAF Nicosia. Seven other airmen were badly injured in the blast. Aged 22 from Hackney London he is buried at Wayne’s Keep, the British military cemetery in Cyprus, Plot 25 Row D Grave 1. See also BRAY.
