Lieut. Samuel James Gresham WALKER is one of the 372 British Servicemen who died on active service during the four-year Cyprus Emergency April 1 1955 to April 18 1959, and whose name is among those remembered with honour on the British Cyprus Memorial. Serving with the Royal Leicestershire Regiment, aged 22 from Blandford Dorset, he and one of his men were both shot dead when their patrol was ambushed at Prelates on March 27 1956. He is buried at Charlton Marshall Church, Dorset. See also BOWMAN.
