Gunner Colin YATES is one of the 372 British Servicemen who died on active service during the four-year Cyprus Emergency April 1 1955 to April 18 1959, and whose name is among those remembered with honour on the British Cyprus Memorial. Serving with the Royal Artillery he was killed when his vehicle drove over a landmine at Yialousa on March 17 1956. Aged 19 from Doncaster he is buried at Wayne’s Keep, the British military cemetery in Cyprus, Plot 20 Row A Grave 1.
