Lieut. Edward John WRIGHT is one of the 372 British Servicemen who died on active service during the four-year Cyprus Emergency April 1 1955 to April 18 1959, and whose name is among those remembered with honour on the British Cyprus Memorial. Serving with 847 Squadron, Royal Navy, he was observer in a Fairey Gannet which, returning from a coastal patrol on February 20 1958 – his 29th birthday — crashed at Nicosia Airport killing all three members of the crew. From Antrim, Belfast — as was his close friend the pilot — he is buried at Wayne’s Keep, the British military cemetery in Cyprus, Plot 24 Row E Grave 4. See also Chivers, Greer.
