Remembrance by: The British Cyprus Memorial Trust

2nd Lieut. the Hon. Charles Stephen FOX-STRANGWAYS is one of the 372 British Servicemen who died on active service during the four-year Cyprus Emergency April 1 1955 to April 18 1959, and whose name is among those remembered with honour on the British Cyprus Memorial. Serving with the Royal Horse Guards, he was murdered on July 8 1958 in a grocery store in Hermes Street, Famagusta by a gunman who followed him into the shop and shot both he and his driver escort in the back. Aged 20 and born at Evershot, Dorset, the son of Lord Stavordale, he was due to return to England six weeks later at the end of his National Service.See also Trooper Proctor.
