Gunner Ernest HARGREAVES is one of the 372 British Servicemen who died on active service during the four-year Cyprus Emergency April 1 1955 to April 18 1959, and whose name is among those remembered with honour on the British Cyprus Memorial. Serving with 21 Medium Regiment Royal Artillery, he was one of three killed when a terrorist bomb exploded in the Naafi canteen at Coral Bay Camp near Paphos on Saturday November 17 1956. Aged 19 from Leeds he is buried at Wayne’s Keep, the British military cemetery in Cyprus, Plot 11 Row A Grave 5. See also FRANCIS & Terence ROBERTS.
