I was lucky enough to serve with Wally (as we always called him) at 17 Veh Bn and later at HQ Field Records BAOR.
I was the unit “schoolie” and remember him as a very smart and intelligent NCO and was very happy to see him through the promotion exams and then for him to join our Sergeants Mess at Nicholson Barracks, Munchen Gladbach following his promotion to Sgt.
His sad death has had a everlasting impression on me,I think of him every Remembrance Day, and I still hope to visit his grave one day. Schoolie Greenly (ex S/Sgt RAEC)
