Cpl William Robert HOLDEN is one of the 372 British Servicemen who died on active service during the four-year Cyprus Emergency April 1 1955 to April 18 1959, and whose name is among those remembered with honour on the British Cyprus Memorial. Serving with the Royal Leicestershire Regiment he died from gunshot wounds to the head on June 13 1956 during a firefight in the village of Paralimni. Aged 22 from Salthill Galway he is buried at Wayne’s Keep, the British military cemetery in Cyprus, Plot 14Row C Grave 5.
