Staff Sgt James William LANE is one of the 372 British Servicemen who died on active service during the four-year Cyprus Emergency April 1 1955 to April 18 1959, and whose name is among those remembered with honour on the British Cyprus Memorial. Serving with the Royal Ulster Rifles he was accidentally shot in Famagusta while searching for EOKA gunmen on,October 3 1958. Aged 23 from Dublin he is buried at Wayne’s Keep, the British military cemetery in Cyprus, Plot 11 Row B Grave 11.
