David came into my life when I was 12 years old. Even though I wasn't an only child persay, I was in a sense because I was adopted and raised by my maternal grandparents. Then it was just my mom and me after Dad passed away in 1964. Anyway my two older relatives and I went to this newsstand one afternoon and while they were looking at thingsall over the store, I went for the teen magazines. I picked up a couple and bought them without really looking at them. On the way back to the house I did though. (I'm lucky I didnt break my neck since I was looking at David and not where I was going. Could I help it?) The girls teased that David's pictures were the only reason I bought the magazines. I couldn't really deny it since it was true. I begged and pleaded to be able to go see him in 1971 and Mom agreed only if the relatives went to. Before the big day came she and my stepdad who was to marry the next month decided maybe they were too old too go to a DC show(NAH) so my older brother and sister in law took us. We all enjoyed the show and he blamed us for talking too much about David, what he was wearing, the way he moved etc because went a one way street the wrong way and he said distracted with our talking. The next year 1972 David performed at the state fair and my mom, stepdad and I went down. I satin the grandstand waiting for the MAN and mom and Ardel walked around the fair. Except for when mim sat in my seat while Ardel and I went to get me something to eat. That year was the last I saw David live til 2002. 30 years had gone by but it didn't seem like it. I would love to have those memories back. Two of the relatives who went to the concert in 1971 are gone. My stepdad passed the year after we went to the fair. Now David is gone at the same age my stepdad was.

David the soundtrack to the lives of a generation
we are poorer at his passing . He was a phenomonen
a legend in his own lifetime , tiny in stature but
his personality was huge . Loved bye so many yet
rarely happy himself . We thank you for the music you
have left as your legacy . You will never be forgotten
you were the best at what you did and i hope
you’re getting the respect you craved in life now in
heaven . You weren’t perfect as people take pleasure
in saying . But you had a voice that could melt the
hearts of a generation . When i remember you i
remember the smile and the cheeky chuckle that
made your nose curl upwards. Endearing ,telented
and a true enigma .
Thank you for the music Sir.
