As I tried to come to terms with the tragic death of our colleague on Thursday morning, the reality of our role in society and the dangers attached to what we do was sobering.
Now 89 of our colleagues have died in the line of duty, 89 too many, 89 heart-broken families, and one large blue-blood family devastated yet again.
My thoughts and prayers to D/Garda Colm Horkan, his family, friends, and colleagues. May he Rest In Peace.

GRA Vice President
Limerick Divisional CEC
My sincere sympathy to Colm's family, close family members, colleagues and friends on your tragedy in losing Colm.
Everything I am hearing about Colm tells me he was what we hope every person to be in a civilised society.
Reading and hearing of Colm's generous and extensive civic contribution, both at a personal and professional level, it is clear he was one in a million.
I hope Colm's family find comfort and strength in remembering the decent and caring person that Colm was.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
