Doug what can I say - what a journey - from that phonecall when I was still in DGO asking me to move to tobacco control, to that first meeting with Tom Frieden in a snowy New York, to building a new operational tobacco team from scratch, to GTCR, to MPOWER, to Gates Africa Tobacco, to a new enlarged PND department, to my illness, to Be He@lthy Be Mobile, to new Bloomberg projects and then the ambassador programme. What an AMAZING 10 years it has been. You are an incredible boss. You have supported me personally and you have devoted so much time and energy to all the projects that you direct. You are totally committed to the public health goal. It is so refreshing !! It has been an amazing experience working for you and I have learnt so much. You have incredible encyclopedic knowledge and memory, great political acumen, attention to detail and oratory skills, but the thing that most impressed me over the years, is that you are also willing to take risks, something that is really so rare in WHO. On a personal note, your commitment to keep me working has been immense and something I will be forever grateful for. You probably don't remember but a few years ago we were in NY together at a Bloomberg meeting. I had totally lost my voice. I was whispering my comments to colleagues and they were repeating them. I said to you, if this continues, I will just have to stop working. You didn't even blink, just said, don't be ridiculous, if this continues we will just all learn sign language. We never discussed it again. Your faith in me over the years has defined how I have dealt with this illness and my family and I will always be grateful to you. I have no doubt that we will continue to work together in some capacity in the future and so I just raise a glass to the incredible journey thus far !!!!

Dear Douglas, time flies! I first met you in Vancouver twenty years ago when TFI conducted its expert committee on FCTC. You are truly a parent of the life saver for millions of people in the world. Please have a rest "for a while" and be back to us with more energy and inspiration. All the best from Mochizuki family, Yumiko and Moet
