Dear Douglas, I am in WHO because of you. You gave me an opportunity to see the good that this organization does as an intern and graciously engaged me as a short term consutant to assist your team deliver commendable secretarial services to the INB meetings which birthed the FCTC, first public health treaty of the organization. Dear Douglas, Congratulations and best wishes on your well-deserved retirement! You have worked so hard to contribute your knowledge, talents and skills to make life on earth healthier and better! I have good memories of the time of the development of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control, the hearings, the series of INBs, the adoption by the WHA at 3:30 am at night, the subsequent ratifications by member states coming in as well as of mainstreaming tobacco control in the work of other WHO technical programs. I am sure that you already have many plans for the near future so wishing you all the best for these new endeavors and adventures. Annemieke Brands, WHO Global TB Programme
