Aged 96 As with many veterans he rarely spoke of his involvement in World War 2. Many of his family had no idea of the things he endured during that period. He was on board a ship and torpedoed not once but twice. He served in North Africa at El Alamein and Tripoli and was on the D day landings all be it from day 3 but went all the way to Berlin. He did discuss it with one of his grandchildren who asked him about it when he became indignant when watching some bombing of the Tripoli harbour by the allies in the more recent Gaddaffi conflict. He wanted to know why they were destroying the harbour that he built.
