“Thank you just doesn’t feel like enough.” Words echoed by the many thousands of beneficiaries SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, helps every single year. But we couldn’t help them without our dedicated network of volunteers.
People volunteer for SSAFA in a variety of roles, but they all have a common purpose: to provide support to our Armed Forces family, whenever and wherever it is needed.
Established in 1885, millions of people have been helped by SSAFA, both in times of conflict and during peace time. In this book, I’m delighted we can share inspirational stories of how our volunteers continue to help and support military personnel, veterans and their families.
During my short time as Chairman of SSAFA, I have been hugely impressed and humbled by the level of commitment and dedication shown by our volunteers. I’ve heard stories of caseworkers camped outside housing offices to get a veteran a bed for the night and of volunteers rallying the local community to support someone in need. But it can also be the simple things that make a difference, just being there to listen without judgement.
I am proud to volunteer for SSAFA, and be part of a network of people with this level of passion.
