Berkeley had become a conservative MP for Devonport 1852 until the year of his death in year 1857 Devonport formerly known as Plymouth dock and was a small district within Devon. Devonport was originally one of three close districts (Devonport along with Plymouth and East Stonehouse) which then merged to create the City of Plymouth 57 year after Berkeley's death
