In memory of Mayvis Eastham

Mayvis was born Mayvis Oldroyd on 22nd January 1913 in Barrow. She was the daughter of Alice and John Oldroyd and had an older brother named Albert Edwin Oldroyd. In her youth she played tennis, went cycling and enjoyed going to the pictures watching films.  She was also an avid reader and loved to go fell walking in the Duddon Valley and the Lake District. Mayvis met her husband Cecil Thomas Eastham through their love of fell walking.

She worked at Vickers Shipyard in Barrow where she was in charge of the typing pool and Cecil also worked there.  They married in July 1960 and subsequently moved to Penwortham in Preston.  They had many happy years there and made many friends.  Sadly Cecil died in April 1997. Mayvis continued living at their home in Penwortham until 2011, when she moved to Croston Park Nursing Home where she spent her final years.

She became 100 years old in 2013 and was proud to get her birthday card from the Queen.

Mayvis's father in law was an active member of St Johns Ambulance for 50 years.
