Thank you to the United Nations for having, twenty years ago, given a primordial and deserved place to the status of women in matters of peace and security. Indeed, the adoption of resolution 1325 by the United Nations Security Council has profoundly changed the place of women in situations of war and armed conflict. This new turning point has given women the opportunity to participate actively in peace and security issues as actors: they now have the possibility to make their voices heard in order to make peace prevail and denounce the violence they suffer. In addition, the Security Council is giving more importance to women-specific security issues, something that was not done before or was done very lightly.Thank you to the UN for recognizing rape as a weapon of war. This "abstract" rape has long been ignored. Because these raped women were not hit by bullets from soldiers, the international community tended not to consider these acts as acts of war. Today, there is an ungendered acceptance of the notion of peace and war. Perspectives are broader and women are better represented in peace and security processes.
