Private George Allott was in reality George Beaumont, born in Penistone, Yorkshire but he enisted and served under the name of George Allott.  He was wounded in the arm during the Battle of Waterloo.  In 1845 he was found guilty of stealing linen yarn and sentenced to 15 years transportation to Van Diemen’s Land.
