Date added: 6 Oct 2010

My father's name is Robert Turley, Bob for short.
Wow! what a guy. He joined the RAF 151 Wing just before war was declared in 1939. He also married my mother Joan the same year. He was stationed all over Britain before he was sent to Russia on the convoy ships to Arkangel. They helped the Russian pilots how to build and fly the Hurricanes. He told us some great stories about what he saw and how they had to march in the freezing snow. He was then sent to India, Israel, Egypt, Burma and all over the Middle East. He made some great friends, but sadly most have passed on, as my father did in March-2010 aged 95. I know from reading his diaries that he was very homesick and missed my mother terribly. My father had great humour and kindness and was a great husband and father. Myself and my brother Robert feel very honoured and priveleged to have had him for a father. My mother Joan and all the family feel like a light has gone out. We all love and miss him, but I'd like to think of him somewhere having a laugh and a pint with his mates.

Cheers Dad! Until we meet again.
Your ever loving daughter Annie xxx
