Remembered by: Michael Yates

Date added: 11 May 2010

William 'Steve' Yates left us on Sunday 28th February 2010, aged 87.
He had just met his first great-grandson and was as proud of him as anyone could be (first photo).
Steve served with the Canadian '6' Group ['The Ghost Squadron'] stationed at Middleton-St, George during the war (2nd photo). He was the last survivng member of his crew.
In 2002 Steve was surprised with a presentation of his medals at Duxford aviation museum (3rd photo).

There is a lot more information about Steve, including his war story and that of another crew member, Pete Smith, on his website at www.meyates.co.uk/wsyates

We salute someone who was truly 'one of the old brigade' who helped keep Britain free.
