Remembered by: Roy Fallows

Date added: 26 Jul 2014

Arthur Fallows served in the RAF during the second world war.  He was an armourer, servicing and loading weapons and munitions onto aircraft such as Spitfires and Lancaster.  He served in UK, Egypt, Italy, Malta.  One of his jobs in Italy was to go into the mountains as part of a 'Queen Mary' recovery crew to find crashed aircraft.  His role was to get the guns and ammunition away before the bandits got at them.  He believed that the air force had the best of his life and was a bit resentful of that, but he still spoke about his service with a degree of pride and was happy to tell his sons what he experienced.  In the early 1950's, he and his new family were living with his parents when a fire broke out in the house.  The RAFBF provided a grant to buy some new belongings, including furniture.  It wasn't a massive amount but he was forever grateful and contributed to the fund whenever he could.
